‘Rent a Bench’ at Becharlo Jewellery Studio
Looking for a creative space to continue your jewellery journey?
The beCHARLO jewellery studio on the Isle of Wight offers independent bench time for makers who would like to practise their skills, work on personal projects, or simply enjoy dedicated time at the bench in a calm studio environment.
The studio is intentionally kept small and personal, creating a quiet and focused space to work and develop your jewellery practice.
Whether you are refining techniques, finishing a project, or spending time exploring new ideas, bench hire provides access to a professional jeweller’s workspace and tools.
Skill level required: Bench hire is intended for makers who are confident working independently and have prior jewellery-making experience, including soldering. These sessions are not guided workshops.
What’s included: A professional bench, shared use of studio tools and tea + coffee to keep you fuelled.
What’s not included: Materials, gemstones, precious metals and solder are not included in bench hire. Please bring your own materials for your project. Small amounts of silver may occasionally be available to purchase in the studio if required.

First time using the studio?
All makers must complete a Studio Induction Session before booking independent bench hire. This one-off session introduces you to the workspace, tools and studio safety practices so you can work confidently and independently.
Longer Studio Sessions
Planning a bigger project?
Some makers choose to book full days or multiple sessions to fully immerse themselves in the making process. Consecutive days or back-to-back sessions may be available depending on studio availability.
If you would like to book extended bench time or several days in the studio, please get in touch and I’ll do our best to accommodate you.
Studio bench sessions are currently available 1–2 days per week, with block bookings available on request.

Spend time at the bench creating your own sterling silver double band ring set with a gemstone in the beCHARLO jewellery studio.
In this relaxed workshop, you’ll learn the fundamentals of stone setting using a bezel cup while creating a contemporary double band ring. Working with sterling silver wire, you’ll form and solder the ring before carefully setting your chosen gemstone and refining the piece to a beautiful final finish.
This workshop is a wonderful introduction to stone setting and a natural next step for those who have already tried jewellery making or are curious about working with gemstones.

A private studio experience (maximum two participants) with dedicated tuition and all sterling silver included.
Give the gift of creativity with a hands-on silversmithing experience at the beCHARLO Studio on the Isle of Wight. In this relaxed, beginner-friendly 3-hour session, participants will design and handcraft their own pair of solid sterling silver hoops.
Working with quality sterling silver wire, you’ll learn traditional bench techniques including forming, soldering and polishing to create a timeless pair of earrings. You may choose a classic smooth finish or add subtle texture for a more organic feel.
The result is a beautifully balanced pair of hoops crafted by hand, finished with care and ready to wear.

Foundations of Jewellery Making

Thursdays | 14th January – 4th February 2027 | 6:00pm – 8:30pm
Discover the art of traditional jewellery making in a relaxed, small-group studio setting.
Designed for complete beginners, this four-week programme introduces the essential techniques used by professional jewellers. Over four weekly sessions, you’ll create three sterling silver pieces while developing practical skills, confidence and an understanding of the jewellery-making process.
Working alongside just one or two other participants, you’ll receive plenty of individual guidance in a welcoming environment, making this the perfect introduction to jewellery making.
What you’ll create
- A handcrafted sterling silver ring
- A handcrafted sterling silver bangle
- An organic sterling silver pendant
- Three finished pieces to wear and treasure
- A strong foundation in traditional jewellery-making techniques
What you’ll learn
Throughout the programme you’ll be introduced to a range of traditional jewellery-making techniques, including:
- Measuring and sizing
- Sawing and piercing
- Filing and shaping
- Annealing
- Forming and texturing
- Soldering
- Drilling
- Finishing and polishing
Each project introduces new techniques, allowing your skills and confidence to develop naturally from week to week.
